The Great Badger Trail - a 112 mile 10 day walk - or in my case a 'scoot' to raise public awareness of the pointless continuation of the 'cull' of badgers this year 2014.
All the participants are sponsored, the funds raised going towards protecting our Badgers in the Gloucestershire and Somerset kill zones.
In the unlikely event that this ConDem government sees reason, or listens to the science and public opinion, the money raised will go towards Badger Vaccination instead.
I am intending to complete the whole 112 mile route from Gloucester to Westminster on my mobility scooter and accompanied by my faithful canine companions Brodie and Buddy.
If you would like to donate on my GoFundMe page the address is http://www.gofundme.com/8ihdts
I hope, subject to wi-fi coverage, to update this blog daily during the event with plenty of pictures, video and coverage of each day's progress as we draw ever closer to the final big demonstration outside parliament on Saturday 31st May.
Wednesday 21/5 9.20pm
Hopefully everything is packed and loaded ready for a 6.30 departure in the morning.
The last piece of the jigsaw finally fell into place an hour or so ago - a safe place to leave the car and trailer for 10 days; many thanks to Steve Jones :)
Monday 26/5
My apologies to everyone for not updating before - unfortunately my dongle didn't work! (if you'll excuse the expression). I got to the "3" shop in Oxford this morning and managed to fix the problem :)
So a bit of catching up -
Thursday 22/5 10.78 miles.
After the speeches in Gloucester by Julie, Ama, Steve Jones (excellent), and believe it or not, my own two pence worth - we eventually set off in the rain at about 12.45.
After about 5 miles we were caught in a torrential thunderstorm but luck was on our side - the Hare and Hounds, Churchdown came to our sodden rescue :)
This seems to have set the scene for the next few days too - braving driving rain to get to the next watering hole to partially dry out and recoup our spirits!
Anyway, we arrived safe and sound in Cheltenham around 5pm having traveled 10.78 miles (somewhat more than 8-9 predicted).
We later adjourned to the "Grumpy Whiskers" for supper - where I had my first 'disaster' catching a wheel of my trailer on a bench outside, ripping it from the scooter :(
However a hacksaw, spanners and some ingenuity (not mine) provided a secure solution! Thanks so much to everyone who helped, I was having visions of my 'trail' coming to an end on day 1!
One of the speakers - Steve Jones, Dairy Farmer (not in this farmer's name) giving a very well informed speech in Gloucester before the 'off'.
Friday 23/5 16.20 miles.
